A Lazy Sunday with Mrs. T

Quite an enjoyable low stress and lazy Sunday with Mrs. T. Went shopping with Mrs. T at Vivo City. Had coffee and thick peanut butter toast at Toast Box (yum!). Went to the Mark and Spencer sale but didn’t manage to buy anything. Bought clothes from Topshop and Bossini. And then a late lunch at Food Republic.

Mrs. T and I noticed that it was not crowded as usual at Vivo City. It suits us just fine but I think it’s a sign that the recession is well and truly here. People not shopping with a vengeance (which is rare in Singapore).

Did my usual Turbulence Training and had a seafood hor fun at the Cze Char restaurant.

Happy days.

Mom and Zhen Zhen Porridge at Maxwell Food Centre

Brought mom and relatives to Maxwell Food Centre for breakfast.  Got lost for a while before I located the food centre.  Damn – I need to work on my sense of direction.  I have a mental block when it comes to Shenton Way/Tanjong Pagar/Chinatown area.

Anyway, Mom saw a long queue at Zhen Zhen Porridge and wanted to try.  I took turns queuing for it with my aunt.  I think we queued for at least 25 – 30 minutes for it.  Was it worth the wait?  Definitely no!  The stall holders were very generous with their ingredients.  But really how good can porridge taste?  Rather than wasting your 30 minutes of your life in line, it is better to grab a bowl of porridge at Crystal Jade.

Came back cleaned the house while mom & gang went shopping.  Hope they are enjoying themselves in Singapore.

Newton Circus and Drinks at the Wine Co

I don’t know how come this blog became all serious.  Mrs. T thinks that it is part of my nature to give unsolicited advice to all and sundry.  And in this case unsolicited advice to the world wide web.

Anyway, here is a less serious post.  Went out tonight with my 3 of my  former housemates.  We have known each other for close to 20 years.  A seafood dinner with beer (and ice) at Newton Circus followed by drinks at the Wine Co@Evans.  It was really nice to see them again.  The night had all the makings of a good night out – all the swearing in Hokkien and the alcohol.  Though the night ended at 10.30 pm.  In the past, it would have gone on until 2 – 3 am.  And usually it will end with someone puking his guts out and possibly passing out.  Ah well – still it was fun.

Of Mongrel Strain

Mrs. T thinks this blog thing is a good thing.  Instead of boring her with the same old stories, I bore the world instead.  More time for her to watch her favourite Korean shows.

Over lunch, one of my best friends, whom I have known since Form Five way back in Malaysia said to me, “We Malaysians are like cockroaches.  We are of the mongrel strain.  We are a lot more hungry than the average Singaporean.  That’s  why we do so well here.”  In a way, what he said was quite true.  Lots of Malaysians have done very well in this city state. My friend is now an extremely successful professional in town.  Both of us sure have come a long way from the days when we were schoolboys in our ratty white shirts and olive pants uniform.  But I thought that the statement about being of mongrel strain was pretty ironic considering that we were having lunch at the very posh Li Bai at Sheraton Hotel and eating decadent hairy crabs.   The hairy crabs were yummy by the way.
